Snohomish County Parenting Seminar: The Two Approved Providers
Snohomish County keeps this simple: under Local Rule LSPR 94.04(d)(4) and the court's Parenting Seminar Standards, only two seminars are approved — Successful Co-Parenting and Children in Between Online — and parties must complete one within 60 days after service of the petition or initiating motion. Your two options (and only these two)
In many Washington counties you sift through a long approved list. Snohomish County is the opposite — the court names exactly two seminars, so your only real choice is format: live class or self-paced.
1. Successful Co-Parenting (live online)
A 4-hour, live, instructor-led workshop held over Zoom, offered in English and Spanish, run by Collaborative Parenting with Tio Jorge, LLC. The provider publishes an $85 price and a phone line at 360-399-6429. Pick this if you want a real-time class with an instructor and a set session date.
2. Children in Between Online (self-paced)
A fully self-paced online course from the Center for Divorce Education — no scheduled session, complete it on your own time before your 60-day deadline. The Snohomish County price is not published on the provider's county page; it appears at registration, or call the provider at 877-874-1365 before you commit. Pick this if your schedule can't fit a fixed 4-hour session.
We're deliberately not listing other parenting-class vendors here. In Snohomish County a certificate from a non-approved course is a wasted fee — the court's Administrative Order names these two seminars, and that's the whole list. If a provider tells you otherwise, verify with the court before paying.
The 60-day deadline and the certificate
The court's Parenting Seminar Standards (Administrative Order 05-20, most recently updated August 12, 2020) set the clock: where a parenting seminar is required by local rule or court order, parties "shall participate in, and successfully complete, an approved parenting seminar within 60 days after service of a petition or initiating motion on the respondent." Two practical points:
- Finishing isn't filing. Under LSPR 94.04(d)(4), each party files a certificate of attendance with the court. The parenting plan waits on that certificate, so file it — don't leave it in your inbox.
- You never attend with the other party. Washington law (RCW 26.12.172) bars requiring opposing parties to attend a seminar together. Waivers are available for good cause, and the court must waive or adjust the requirement where attendance isn't safe or appropriate — ask the court, especially where there is domestic violence in the case.
What it costs (honestly: no cap)
Some Washington counties cap the seminar fee by local rule. Snohomish County does not publish a cap — Administrative Order 05-20 says plainly that each parent attending a seminar "shall pay a fee charged by the approved provider agency," and that the seminar runs at no cost to the court. In practice that means Successful Co-Parenting's published $85, or whatever Children in Between Online shows at checkout for Snohomish County. If cost is a genuine hardship, raise it with the court or a legal-aid organization rather than skipping the seminar — an unfiled certificate stalls your parenting plan.
